Laurie never set out to re-invent the electric guitar, and he makes no claim to originality. Rather, Laurie has used the opportunity to express his thoughts on the electric guitar, some of which will be familiar but there are a few things in the design, both upfront and behind the scenes, that he has added for both aesthetic and design considerations.

The Awa model is an electric guitar that embodies all the precision and tonality from his acoustics, with clear, bell-like harmonics and a fast, easily played neck.

The Awa model has afforded Laurie the opportunity to showcase some of the extraordinary timber that he has been lucky enough to get his hands on over the years, but which could not be used for his acoustic models, most notable is the figured river totara.
